OUR STORY
BOXD FOR PETS started as an idea during Sydney’s 2021 lockdown.
We were at home thinking about how much our lives have been impacted by the COVID-19 restrictions and lockdown. Lockdown was taking its toll and all we could focus on were the negative things - being restricted to our home, not being able to spend time with our friends and family, long-term impacts the lockdown was having on us as small businesses owners, and people’s mental health including our own.
Days were becoming lost where gyms were closed and we weren’t able to physically go into work, so the only time we would create time to go outside was to walk our dog Evie.
The joy in her face every time she would sense we were getting ready to go for a walk was priceless! We would get her harness on and she would follow us around the house as if she was telling us to hurry up so we could go. What sold us was her excitement level was consistently the exact same every day. It’s like when you get home from a day at work and your pet is there to greet you… it was that type of excitement, and eventually that excitement caught onto us.
We started to think of lockdown differently and focused on the things we were grateful for instead of consuming ourselves with the things in life we couldn’t control.
We started to think of how many other people would be struggling in the same conditions as us and to also have a little companion to uplift their days with excitement and not a worry in the world.
We always knew Evie brought a lot of joy to our lives but this was especially evident during lockdown. She was always there for us when we needed her, but we weren’t always there for her due to work. Prior to lockdown we were going to work every day, going out for dinner and little Evie was left home alone. Lockdown made us realise that we don’t appreciate Evie as much as we should and we know a lot of pet owners would feel the same way too so we thought about how we could give back to her and show her the appreciation she deserves.
Creating dog boxes isn’t a new thing. There are many options out there but we wanted ours to be unique and stand out from the ones that are already established. We also wanted to link up with Australian Small Businesses so we could support each other and grow together through these unprecedented times.
We know how important it is, as humans, to have an adequate nutritional lifestyle and as humans we have control over what we put into our bodies. Our pets however, rely on us to provide them with the nutrition they require to grow and develop as healthy as possible. We knew we needed to have treats in our boxes that contained fewer pesticides, chemicals and preservatives to promote the health and growth of our pets. That’s why we have teamed up with small businesses that produce unique, organic products to use in our unique boxes.
Over the years we have seen the impact our pets have on our lives. They become part of the family and we can’t imagine our lives without them.
